JIU-JITSU
STARTING MAY 1 AT PUNCH KETTLEBELL GYM!

My name is Ben Eaton and I am an affiliate instructor for the Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu Associacion which is part of the world famous Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu team, Gracie Humaita.  I hold the rank of faixa preta (black belt), promoted by Saulo Ribeiro on October 10th 2009.  I have been studying the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 1997 and teaching since 2003.  I am an active competitor in Jiu-Jitsu and no-gi competitions, earning several titles along the way.  I have also won two titles in MMA, however, I retired from that sport in 2006 to put all my focus on learning and passing on the martial art and lifestyle of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  At Michiana BJJ, I offer:

  • top level instruction
  • group classes
  • private instruction
  • a clean, safe, professional training environment
  • rank advancement from white belt to black
  • opportunities to train at other Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu academies across the country at no additional cost

As many of you know from last month’s newsletter, we gave you a bit of a background about our trainer, Ben Eaton and how the combination of his kettlebell experience along with his credentials in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA have made Punch Gym South Bend the source for the strength and conditioning needs of serious combat athletes.  One of Ben’s friends, training partners and clients, Todd “the Bulldog” Brown has finally had his dream come true when he received the call to compete in the UFC.  Todd is the owner of the Michiana Fight League and the Bulldog Fight Team and owns an 18-1 record in MMA with his only loss being via split decision.

On July 30th Todd finished his final workout at Punch before departing for  Vegas to complete his medical exams for licensing.  Todd will be facing a tough opponent in Tim Botesch in Sacramento, CA and the fight in UFC 117 will be aired live of PPV.  We are very proud of you Todd!  Let’s look for a convincing victory!!!

Update July 2010

One of the newest editions to Punch Gym South Bend is Ben Eaton.  You have probably worked with him during some of the bootcamps or Punch circuit classes.  Ben brings with him the experience of being a certified Russian Kettlebell Instructor as well as being one of the very few Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blackbelts in Northern Indiana.  Ben uses this combination give the Punch members a look into how some of the top level fighters use kettlebells, wild ropes and our other various training tools in preparation for high level competition.    Some of you have had the pleasure of experiencing another tool that Ben has introduced, the Bulgarian bag.  We feel the Bulgarian bag fits right in with our style of training at Punch Gym South Bend.

With our style of training, we are setting ourselves apart from the passive health clubs.  We take pride in classifying ourselves as a serious training center.  And as a result, yet another group of professional athletes are looking for us to take them to the next level, the Michiana Fight League.  The sport of Mixed Martial Arts has evolved to a point where the determining factor is not as much one style versus another, but yet the level of athleticism and conditioning between the two combatants.  With the help of seasoned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA competitor, Ben Eaton, Punch Gym South Bend has now become the answer for yet another group of professional athletes.
